William Shakespeare was born in late April of 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, England. There are very few records of Shakespeare's childhood. It is assumed that he attended Stratford Grammar School, but his eduation beyond that point is unknown. Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway in 1582, and together they had three children. |

William Shakespeare then began gaining recognition as a poet, actor, and playwright. Later he joined one of the most flourishing acting companies in London: The Lord’s Chamberlain’s Men. It was renamed The Kings Men after King James I came to the throne in 1603. Shakespeare wrote thirty seven plays, one hundered fifty four sonnets, and other poetry. In 1613 Shakespeare retired from the stage and retreated to his home “ The Great House of New Place” in Stratford, London. Legend has it that Shakespeare passed away on his fifty second birthday. |
