At MSA, drama students study a theory of acting known as Naturalism, which comes from the work of the actor, teacher, and director Constantin Stanislavski. During his time, plays were being written in a new style known as Realism. These plays were about real people with real issues and they needed actors who could speak and move like actual human beings. Stanislavski's work gave actors an acting style to go along with Realistic playwriting. He changed the nature of acting forever when he instructed his actors to behave naturally within the given circumstances of the play, which is our definition of acting at MSA. |
